How much money you can make with anything, including Google's AdSense program, depends on certain factors directly affecting it.
Based on my 4 years of experience using AdSense, I can tell you that AdSense earnings vary from person to person by huge margins.
While some people never earn a check because you have to make at least $100 to get paid, there are some who make hundreds each month and some who make thousands. Larger websites with a lot of users and a lot of pages make upwards of 5 figures per month.
Here are some of the factors that will determine how much you can earn.
Popularity of your website
This is probably the main determining factor. If you're reading this article and don't currently own a website, then realistically, you're not going to make a whole lot even if you do manage to set up your website tonight.
You probably wouldn't make the payout threshold the first month but it is not impossible.
If you have a website and you're thinking about putting AdSense on there, you'll need to ask yourself how popular is your website. How many visitors does your pages get every day?
The more popular your website the more you'll make with Google AdSense.
Niche/Topic of your website
AdSense pays on a per click basis and typically, you'll get anywhere from 1 cent to a dollar for each click.
Some niches or topics are very competitive and can cost advertisers more to get them on your pages. This means you'll receive more per click if these ads are displayed on your pages.
Topics such as insurance and loans for example can yield you much higher earnings than say free games or music.
If your website is on these high earning topics, you'll make more money way faster providing the other factors are satisfied also.
AdSense Placement and Layout
Now don't start thinking I'm getting all technical on you. Even if you're not sure what all this means, please remember that you're learning about AdSense and this will only get easier as you know more.
Since AdSense earnings depend on users to click your ads, you'll need to place your ads in positions on your web pages where they're likely to get clicked.
Also you'll need to use colors that match the page and layouts that fit in certain areas.
The more your ads blend into the page naturally and look more as if they're part of your content than ads, the higher the chance of them being clicked on.
Follow the Guidelines
Many people make the mistake of not following the guidelines. One major mistake in particular is they want to get their first check so badly that they click on the ads themselves or even tell friends to click on them.
Google will know what's going on and these actions can get your account banned. This way, you'll never get paid.
There are other guidelines you must follow too so please read them when you're signing up for an account.
I've followed the AdSense guidelines for 4 years and I always get paid each and every month.
